Shanae Richmond

Who’s your dream sponsors? Monster Energy, Total BMX, Fist Handwear.

Sponsors: Unit

What are your passions and interests? Freestyle BMX and anything adrenaline fuelled.

Can you tell me about a significant accomplishment or achievement in your life? There are so many achievements I’ve accomplished as every day I aim to be better than who I was and how I rode yesterday so every day it changes. To point out something I was stoked to get my first sponsorship with Unit in 2023. Another moment would be winning my first BMX competition, winning SCX Female Champion on the Sunshine Coast.

What motivates or inspires you on a daily basis? I constantly push myself everyday to be better than who I was yesterday whether it’s on or off the bike. I’m reminded everyday if I’m not out there grinding somebody else is working twice as hard out there for it.

Describe your typical day or routine: My typical day throughout the week will usually look like working from the early morning into the early afternoon to then go straight into riding until it’s dark and repeat.

What are your long-term goals or aspirations? My aspiration is to be the first female X Games gold medalist in freestyle BMX and represent Australia in the Olympics. I am striving to push and step up the BMX female division to a higher level of riding and inspire more girls! Since I started riding, I’ve been on a mission to try to chase the boys and keep up with them so every ride I am more motivated than ever out there with them chasing their spot. I am working to get to a stage where I can represent and introduce a whole new level of female riding that no one has seen before in the sport leaving behind my own legacy.

Is there a particular quote or philosophy that resonates with you? “It’s not about the cards you’ve been dealt, it’s how you use them.” I feel this resonates with me personally as it reminds me to rather be negative, complain, use excuses to try to find the advantage in every situation. My favourite bible verse is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. It reminds me that God wouldn’t put me through anything that he knew I couldn’t handle.

How do you like to spend your free time? Riding my bike, quality time with friends or watching BMX videos.

Can you share a memorable experience or adventure you’ve had? Landing my first ever 540 air was a huge moment. It was something since I started riding I’d always imagined wanting to do and never would have pictured myself landing one.

What role do relationships and connections play in your life? My relationship with others plays an important and meaningful involvement in my life as I heavily engage and thrive off positive energy from others. Motivating and supportive interactions are a massive influence on me and how I connect.

How do you handle challenges or setbacks when they arise? I believe everything happens for a reason and will always try to step back from everything and ask “what is this trying to show or teach me?”.

Who’s your favourite rider and why? My favourite rider is Kyle Baldock. Despite everything he’d gone through
during his childhood he decided to completely change his life around. The insane amount of discipline and dedication he’s consistently shown throughout his riding career to achieve what he has and be a 6 X Games Gold Medalist motivates me knowing that if you put in the hard work and believe in yourself that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to.

My favourite glove right now: KB or Khaki

My quote: “In your weakest moments the strongest version of you is waiting to be born”.
